A New Path Begins
After graduating from welding school in 1979, Robert Burkart took an unexpected turn toward upholstery. While working at Standard Auto Glass in Medicine Hat, Alberta, he discovered a passion for custom interiors through van conversions and automotive upholstery. What started as curiosity quickly became a calling.

Sewline Upholstery Opens Its Doors
With more than a decade of experience and a growing customer base, Robert opened Sewline Upholstery in May 1990. The shop quickly became known across Medicine Hat for its expert craftsmanship, personal service, and commitment to quality.

A New Location, Same Dedication
In 2003, Sewline Upholstery moved just one block over to a larger location, allowing for expanded services and more workspace. The move marked a new chapter, but the heart of the business—family, pride, and precision—remained the same.
Robert’s daughter Jenelle joined Sewline Upholstery in 2016, bringing new ideas, fresh energy, and a strong creative eye to the family business. Her design sense and hands-on approach helped push the business forward while staying true to its roots.
